About the Breed

The Miniature Australian Shepherd resulted from a breeding program that began in 1968.

Mini Aussies are a smaller version of the standard size.  They have soft wavy or straight coats, feathering on the backs of their legs and a mane around their necks.  Their muzzles are wedge shaped and they have round compact feet.

Mini Height: 15 to 18 Inches

Mini Weight: 20 to 40 pounds

According the ASDR (American Stock Dog Registry) the Toy Australian Shepherd is between 10 and 14 Inches measured at the hightest point of the withers.  Hair is of medium texture, straight to wavy, weather resistant and of medium length. Hair is short and smooth on the head, ears, front of forelegs and below the hocks. Back of the forelegs and britches are moderately feathered. The toys weigh between 12 & 17 pounds.

Temperament: Sweet, easy going highly trainable and naturally protective dogs.  They are a devoted breed and will try to herd people, if they don't have anything else to herd.

Life Expectancy is between 12 & 13 yrs.

It is vital to nurture an "Aussie's" socialization to people, animals and other canines.  This cannot be achieved by raising them in cages, kennels or cramped living quarters.
